I began painting my "Trashy Mermaids" in 2017, starting with the piece I affectionately call "BFF." That original artwork, featuring a mermaid and manatee alongside small, dead fish, has almost sold many times, but the jarring detail of the dead fish often discourages buyers. I label these mermaids "trashy" not in quality, but because they're intentionally depicted amidst ocean pollution – sporting a six-pack holder, surrounded by fish skeletons, or removing plastic or a "thank you" bag.It wasn't until December 31, 2024, that the idea struck me to approach the Manatee Center about a collaboration, which I did on Feb 22 I did a little exhibit, with a few of my paintings and that day I sold a few items and was able to happily donate 20% of my proceeds to the Manatee Center.
While I haven't been able to consistently fulfill that pledge yet, I'm hopeful that completing this website and growing my YouTube channel will allow me to contribute regularly to these vital entities
